The RAIC is seeking one volunteer for the Finance, Audit, and Risk Committee. The committee is seeking an individual who is not a member of the RAIC, has experience in finance, and within the not-for-profit sector.

The RAIC board of directors struck a Truth and Reconciliation (TRC) Task Force in February 2020 with the mandate to advance the vision of sharing truth and making reconciliation a reality. Currently, the TRC Task Force is inviting participation from two Indigenous architects.

During the 2020 RAIC Annual General Meeting (AGM) that took place on Tuesday, June 9, 2020, all motions were conducted using a poll system. RAIC President John Brown, FRAIC, informed the attendees that all polls will be subject to an audit following the AGM.  
 
The RAIC is pleased to inform members that all motions were carried by a majority of over 80% in favour.  
 
Motions that were moved include: 
 
-Motion to adopt the Agenda as presented. 

- Motion for the members ratify the election of Johanna Hurme, FRAIC, as Regional Director of Saskatchewan and Manitoba, Drew Hauser, FRAIC, as Regional Director of Ontario Southwest and Susan Ruptash, FRAIC, as Chancellor of the College of Fellows to the RAIC Board of Directors. 

- Motion to destroy the ballots from the elections. 

- Motion to ratify the election of John Brown, FRAIC, as President, Jason Robbins, MRAIC, as First Vice-President, Jonathan Bisson, MIRAC as Second Vice-President and Michael Cox, FRAIC, as Immediate Past President. 

- Motion to approve the minutes of the RAIC Annual General Meeting 2019 as presented (or amended). 

- Motion to receive the President’s Annual Report. 

- Motion to accept the audited financial statements for 2019 as presented. 

- Motion to approve Welch LLP as auditors for the 2020 fiscal year, in accordance with the three-year proposal approved in 2019. 

- Motion to approve the draft RAIC by-laws as presented.

On July 16, 2020, the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) launched a new initiative designed to rally support for a green recovery that includes green building. Industry leaders like the Canadian Urban Institute, the RAIC, RealPac, National Trust, and more, have lent their support to encourage government decision-makers to direct stimulus spending toward green building initiatives.

CaGBC asks industry leaders to add their voice to the call for a green recovery that prioritizes green building here.

Ultimately, CaGBC and Delphi will publish the full Green Building in Canada report in September 2020, including a deep dive into the national and regional green building market.

Submissions for the Main Street Design Challenge are now being accepted for the competition's second cycle.

The Design Challenge is a joint effort by the Canadian Urban Institute (CUI) and the RAIC and invites participants to develop innovative, responsible, sustainable, and resilient design solutions that can be implemented during COVID-19 recovery and post-pandemic. 

Additionally, CUI continues to host the CityTalk Canada series—an ongoing conversation on issues in urban design and planning across the country. The July 9 talk was entitled "Cities in the Time of COVID: "How can we leverage the power of design and engagement to make better main streets," which featured RAIC President-Elect Jason Robbins MRAIC. The full conversation is available to watch here—with more information on upcoming CityTalks available on the CUI website.
