The RAIC International Indigenous Architecture and Design Symposium is inviting abstract submissions for their 2020 edition titled: REDefining the Margins—for consideration for sessions and poster presentations.

The Symposium will take place on June 2, 2020, as part of the RAIC Conference on Architecture 2020 at the Edmonton Convention Centre.

The Symposium focuses on Indigenous representation, narratives, and collaborations—and the 2020 edition is centred on the following topics:

• First Nations, Metis and Inuit Housing/International Indigenous Housing 
• Making Room for New Indigenous Voices on the Leading Edge of Architecture Practice  
• Collaborations: Indigenous/Non-Indigenous Co-Design and Building with First Nations, Metis and Inuit Communities 

Abstract submissions are invited on the above topics for consideration. A full list of details and eligibly requirements for abstract submissions can be found here.

The RAIC, Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP), and Canadian Society of Landscape Architects (CLSA) are proud to announce that 12 projects across Canada—each with a tremendous impact on the surrounding built environment—have been selected for the 2020 Urban Design Awards.

The awards in each category will be presented during the RAIC’s Conference on Architecture hosted in Edmonton from June 2 to 7, 2020. The winning projects range from public art installations and parks to a revitalized underpass.

The RAIC is seeking educators and course developers to work together on the development and administration of new educational initiatives for the RAIC Continuing Education program in 2020 and 2021.

The RAIC is committed to highly-interactive, hybrid learning experiences. As such, all courses will include an online component. Some courses will be designed exclusively for online learning. Please consult the list.

College of Fellows Centennial Fund for Intern/Intern Architect

The College of Fellows Centennial Fund for Interns or Intern Architects was created with donations received from Members of the College of Fellows and Members of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada to support a deserving Intern or Intern Architect or group of Interns/Intern Architects wishing to promote the value and image of the profession.

Canada Green Building Council Scholarship for Sustainable Design and Research

Deadline: Monday, April 27, 2020, at 11:59 PM

– Open to full-time students registered in a Master’s degree program leading to a professional degree in architecture at an accredited University in Canada or the RAIC Syllabus program

This scholarship was established through an endowment from the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) in June 2006. The main purpose of the fund is to nurture the next generation of “green” designers by promoting and encouraging sustainable research and design in Canadian Schools of Architecture.

The Canadian Green Building Awards recognize excellence in the design and execution of Canadian residential and non-residential buildings of all types, including new construction, existing buildings, renovations and interior design projects.

With nine submission categories, the Awards is a great opportunity to have your work recognized and published in SABMag, and on the SABMag website and newsletter.

Eligible projects must have been substantially completed between January 1, 2017, and February 29, 2020.

The Province of Nova Scotia has kicked off a design competition and is inviting architectural teams to submit their qualifications to lead the design of the new Art Gallery of Nova Scotia and public spaces on the Halifax Waterfront.

The design competition is estimated to last six months and will take place over two stages:

Stage one is a call for qualifications and interviews with the top qualified candidates.

Stage two is the formal design competition where shortlisted firms will create conceptual designs for the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia and surrounding public space.
