Emmanuelle van Rutten is a principal at Moriyama & Teshima Architects in Ottawa where she has worked on high-profile projects in the National Capital region, including the Canadian War Museum, the Delegation of the Ismaili Imamat, and the Visitor Welcome Centre Phase One on Parliament Hill in collaboration with IBI Group. Current projects include the rehabilitation of the West Memorial Building in the Parliamentary Precinct.
Emmanuelle graduated from the Carleton University School of Architecture with high distinction and the AIA Henry Adams Medal in 1998. She maintains a close relationship with her alma mater, now called the Azrieli School of Architecture and Urbanism, where she has taught various core design studios in addition to serving as a regular guest critic.
With a reputation as a talented designer and critic, fluidly communicating in both official languages, she has been a member of the Ottawa Urban Design Review Panel since 2015.
She was named a Fellow of the Royal Architecture Institute of Canada in 2019.
Emmanuelle brings 20 years of experience working on distinctive institutional projects and a passion for architectural pedagogy to her role at the RAIC. Her committed engagement with urban design issues focused on empowering communities and developing the public realm through design excellence, also positions Emmanuelle to champion the profession’s broader social roles and aspirations.
